The star has given the full amount of his £25k honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to preserve the Britain's independent concert spaces.

He was given the cheque on mid-October as his third album People Watching was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

He has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the crucial part grassroots venues fulfilled in his beginning days.

"As an artist would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the performances I played around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about 16% of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, top acts such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to support numerous small stages across the UK.

These funds assisted locations that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges caused by floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and neighbor objections.

Some locations received financial assistance in improving infrastructure and technical equipment that directly benefitted musicians and concertgoers.

"The notion that revenue from shows in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has said.

"And I donated a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," she told outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their funds to the community center that nurtured their act, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally winners that year they contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was identified with the condition.

"The victory was quite enough," said artist Small. "The cash was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the cake. So our winning affected another person's life."

In the past week, the trust announced it had rescued two local spots in the South East, by bringing them into community ownership.

The first in that area and the other in that location were acquired under the community ownership program, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
